TALK Salina's Ripple Effect

MISSION: Fostering cultural and ethnic inclusions through education, awareness and support.

TALK Salina hosted a March 2018 deliberation on the topic of Immigration. "Coming to America. Who Should We Welcome? What Should We Do?"

A second event was held in Lincoln County with the same number of attendees.

Following the Salina event, several suggestions were offered. This resulted in the formation of One Salina, a group of nearly 50 citizens:

What Should We Do? Suggestions for Action in Salina

  1. Consider the creation of a community group/committee or organization to support action.

  2. Help people feel welcomed. Intentionally reach out to immigrants in the community.

  3. Consider developing an Outreach Office/Center for this purpose.

  4. Develop and host an International Festival for the community.

  5. Develop a mentoring program for immigrants like Big Brothers and Big Sisters.

  6. Organize and publish an international cooking recipe book by bringing women and men together to share recipes from around the world.

  7. There are several local resources that could collaborate to help people when they reach out. Create a resource list.

  8. Offer culture enrichment classes for education or sharing of stories.

  9. Develop a program to support the Circles program that offers support to families needing financial support, or application for citizenship. Is it possible to families in the community to sponsor and mentor immigrant families, or work through Circles?
